Architecture and Urbanism Beyond COVID19 Open Call for Collaborative Research & Proposal
Winner(Selected as a Main Researcher & Exhibitor)
Completed in 2021
Seoul, Korea
A research and design project addressing how architecture can respond to pandemics through flexibility and resilience.
By redefining “the vulnerable” as those forced into unsafe shared spaces, the proposal develops adaptable modules for floors, façades, circulation, and building systems.
Applied at building and urban scales, these prototypes ensure continuity of daily life and safety during health crises.
Research funded through a $10,000 grant and later presented as part of the main exhibition, “What is To be Asked? Architecture & Urbanism Beyond COVID-19” at Seoul Hall of Urbanism and Architecture (32,000sq ft Venue).

Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY
Collaborated with Wooseok Jang(Columbia GSAPP M.S.AAD ’25)
A floating concrete module designed to support plant growth and marine habitats while achieving negative CO₂ emissions.
Made from recycled cork, coconut fiber, basalt dust, and low-carbon cement, each unit absorbs more CO₂ than it emits over its life cycle. The design integrates with ecological restoration efforts, serving as artificial reefs, kelp farms, or floating gardens.
Modules interlock for scalable applications, from shoreline safety barriers to wetland habitats.
Developed through nine prototype tests, the final mix balances buoyancy, durability, and habitat potential, enabling long-term ecological and carbon-sequestration benefits.

Program : Waste to Energy Plant, Cultural Facility
Completed in 2020 / Revised in 2024
Seoul, Korea
A thesis project envisioning a waste-to-energy facility in Seoul as both an ecological engine and a civic landmark.
Integrating exhibition spaces, a community hill, and event zones powered entirely by on-site energy production, the design transforms public perception of waste infrastructure.
Sustainable strategies—such as kinetic skylights, solar chimneys, and rainwater reuse—merge industrial efficiency with cultural vibrancy, making the facility an inclusive public destination.

A housing proposal in the Bronx reimagining Tracey Towers’ isolated site as a network of public-facing gardens.
By converting parking areas into pedestrian paths and introducing a market street, the project reconnects fragmented urban edges.
Courtyard clusters and varied massing bridge scale differences, while ground-level programs and urban farming promote community gathering, safety, and shared identity.

Palmdale, CA
An experimental façade system using transparent silica aerogel to capture heat and generate both electricity and thermal energy—at six times the efficiency of conventional systems.
Designed for Palmdale, CA, the façade is applied to modular housing units, creating energy-producing “assets” for residents.
The vision extends toward community-scale applications that could improve housing equity and reduce living costs.

Han River, Korea
Collaborated with Reanhee Jeong(SKKU ’22), Jongho Lee(SKKU ’24)
A winning competition entry proposing an artificial island system on the Han River to restore ecological, cultural, and economic productivity in an era of peace.
Two “strokes” form a connected system: one as a wetland habitat and tidal energy generator, the other as a land-based production facility.
The design enables citizens to intuitively experience the river’s role in sustaining life and industry.
